Things don’t always go as planned. Even at a wedding. Even when you have planned every single last detail. But don’t freak out when it happens! It’s not a tragedy! The change can surprise you. It can actually be for the very beautiful.

Lauren and Will’s Grandover Resort wedding was the perfect example of a plan going awry and embracing the change. Their wedding was supposed to be outside. But, it rained. A lot. So, everything was quickly shifted into the Griffin Room. Lauren and Will accepted this change with the exact same excitement as if the weather had been perfect and their wedding had gone off exactly as planned. Because they were just thrilled to be getting married – it didn’t matter what else happened. I adored that about them and their wedding day.

The Griffin Room had exposed wood beams, a massive stone fireplace and was flat out gorgeous. Lauren and Will’s happiness infected their guests and the whole atmosphere was joyful. Even their cute little dog, Chip, went with the flow. The rain didn’t ruin a thing. In fact, I can’t imagine their wedding any other way now.

One of my other favorite things about Lauren and Will’s wedding was the way that both families embraced each other…you truly got the feeling that two families were coming together as one big (and, hello, FUN!) family. Luren’s grandmother even presented Lauren with one of her rings and she also carried Will’s grandmother’s handkerchief. The family interaction was fantastic.

The DJ, JB Entertainment, did an awesome job providing the music for the reception and Lauren, Will and their guests danced and partied the night away. A joyful celebration. That’s what it was.

Grandover was an important place to Lauren and Will because the resort was actually designed by Lauren’s uncle. We got an all access pass to photograph all over the grounds. When I saw an unused conference room with a red velvet curtain, I knew that part of our romance session would be there. Who couldn’t pass up that dramatic backdrop?! It resulted in my favorite image of the day. And not just because of all of the gorgeousness that Lauren, in her Olia Zavozina Couture custom designed dress, and Will provided…it was because they had so many guests to speak to at their wedding and they didn’t get a lot of time to spend together. I was so glad to be able to give them a few precious, quiet moments for them to celebrate their marriage, just the two of them.

Cheers to embracing the unexpected and cheers to the happy, beautiful Lauren and Will!
