Tara and Sam are doctors finishing up their medical degrees at Duke University. Somewhere in the midst of their exams, rounds, and taking care of some really sick people, they managed to plan a simply gorgeous and very personal wedding at one of my favorite venues in North Carolina, Fearrington Village. I grew up wandering around my grandparents’ farm, chasing the cows, and getting into loads of mischief so I always feel right at home at this beautiful, upscale farm venue. (Note: the farm I grew up on, while very beautiful, could definitely not be called “upscale”.) What impressed me most, aside from the Tara and Sam’s obvious glee at getting married to one another, was the intricate and personal details throughout the wedding. I always talk about the Love Notes that every wedding should be filled with and this wedding had them in spades – signage telling their story, the little gifts from the bride and groom, the signature cocktail that was reminiscent of their favorite popsicle shop in Durham. If you didn’t know Tara and Sam before you came to the wedding, you knew then well when you left. It was awesome!
What’s your story? How did you two meet?
“Sam and I met in medical school in upstate NY. We started dating during orientation week! Actually on our first “date” we went grocery shopping… very romantic! Our class was only about 100 students so everyone knew that we were dating rather quickly. Many of our friends took bets about how long we would stay together! We’ve been together now for almost 6 years and are about to start our final year of residency at Duke.” – Tara
What was the best gift you were ever given by your Beloved?
“My family has a tradition of reading the Dr. Seuss Happy Birthday to You book on everyone’s birthday. I told Sam that it never quite feels like my birthday when I’m away from home since we don’t read this book. For my birthday this year, Sam bought me the book and we read it together. I got choked up when I saw it!” – Tara
3. She corrects my punctuation. Without her I’d have commas splattered everywhere.” – Sam
What make you love him?
“He’s the most gentle and even tempered person I’ve ever met. We have a ton of fun together even after 6 years.” – Tara
