Lauren and Gleb | NC Museum of Art | Raleigh, NC
As any artist knows to be true, being surrounded by beauty is pure inspiration so Lauren and Gleb’s wedding at the NC Museum of Art was perfection for me. Everywhere I turned, I was both challenged and thrilled with the beautiful art that I had to figure out how to utilize in my shots. It was important to me to allow the art to be the backdrop to Lauren and Gleb’s love story without letting it take center stage. A wedding day is, after all, about the couple and not the venue.
The First Look occurred in the museum’s modern gallery and I love how the colors and texture add to the grace and joy of seeing one another for the first time. Then Lauren and Gleb gave me the most amazing gift of time with them. We wandered through the installations and found beautiful streams of various kinds of light to play with. They were completely at ease with one another in my presence and that lack of reserve lead to amazingly sweet and romantic images.
The ceremony took place in a beautiful sculpture garden. Sculptures and lots of windows gave me amazingly reflective surfaces to play with and the space absolutely shimmered. But what was the most meaningful to me during their Jewish ceremony was when Lauren and Gleb broke the glass together. It’s not something I’ve seen before and it made me laugh and cry simultaneously. It was joyous.
The reception was a riot of colors, textures, and rocking music and I even got to steal the happy couple away for another quick couple’s session. Their images are both true to who Lauren and Gleb are as a couple but they also are very true to how I see. This wedding speaks to my soul on so many levels and I am a happy and contented photographer.
Congrats to the happy couple!
